This document specifies a method for the measurement of vibration in buildings caused by land-based transport, and provides criteria for evaluating whole-body vibration in dwellings. The document specifies four vibration classes, A to D, based on criteria for assessment of vibrations in dwellings in accordance with the method described in this document. The document does not apply to vibration sources associated with building and civil engineering works, industry, blasting, etc., but it does apply to traffic to and from sites for building and civil engineering works. The document does not apply to evaluation of damage to buildings and structures caused by vibration. This is covered by NS 8141 [2]. This document also provides information about ranges of limit values for offices and certain buildings other than dwellings where vibration from transport may affect people in work situations or performing activities.
