Abstract

In today’s rapidly evolving landscape of transportation electrification, spurred by the accompanying shift towards zero-emission power grids, the market is witnessing a remarkable surge in the availability of electric vehicle (EV) models and EV charging equipment. This proliferation, however, has brought about a notable increase in reported interoperability issues post-installation in the field, signaling a pressing need for standardized protocols. This lack of standardization not only undermines user confidence, but also impedes the widespread adoption of high-power, megawatt (MW) EV charging. Addressing this standardization gap is crucial for building trust among end-users and facilitating the accelerated adoption of high-power EV charging, as perceived by utilities, transportation authorities, and governments. This white paper aims to provide an insightful overview of the current technological landscape in transportation electrification. It delves into the anticipated challenges associated with high-power MW charging, highlights recent relevant standards, and proposes actionable steps for the advancement of the transportation electrification industry.
