Abstract

This standard establishes a method for determining guideline limit values for vibrations in construction works caused by blasting, pile driving, sheet pile driving, excavation, compaction, works traffic, etc. and for determining how these vibrations can be measured. The limit values apply to vibrations at the foundation of the construction works. The limit values are defined by quantities specified in clause 3 and have been specified with the aim of avoiding damage to construction works. The limit values do not apply to human responses to vibrations, nor do they apply to damage that may be caused to fixtures, fittings and equipment in the construction works. This standard only covers the risk of well-defined vibration damage and not damage from deformations/settlements of soil in the ground caused by vibration-inducing activities. The standard does not apply to vibrations arising naturally such as earthquakes, wave action, etc.
