Abstract

This document contains recommendations for determining the qualifications of technicians conducting inspections on offshore structural fabrication using ultrasonic pulse echo inspection devices. Further recommendations are offered for control of the ultrasonic inspections and for the integration of ultrasonic inspection techniques into a general quality control program. The interrelationship between joint design. the significance of flaws in welds. and the ability of an ultrasonic technician to detect critical size defects is also discussed.
