Omfang

This document provides definitions as well as requirements, recommendations and permissions related to design aspects as well as some (non-exhaustive) aspects related to life cycle use and handling of compact flanged connections. The purpose of this document is to specify requirements for other applications, services, and CF types, components and materials than those covered by the scope of id-7df56d70-e141-44c0-8fd5-9a2d9e503cfa NS-EN ISO 27509:2020 .Only application scenarios relevant to the petroleum upstream industry onshore and offshore (Norwegian continental shelf) are considered. However, this does not exclude the possibility for CFCs to be used in other applications such as refinery plants, petrochemical industry, and applications outside the petroleum sector. The application types considered are:top-side facilities offshore, land based process plants, pipeline connectors including pipeline risers offshore and landfall facilities, flowline risers offshore from subsea wellheads, andsubsea system applications (high external pressure/low external temperature). The service types considered are:high internal pressure service, high internal temperature service, high external pressure (e.g. sub-sea application), andcorrosive service. The compact flange connection types considered by this document are:CFC with heel seal plus an optional seal element, andCFC with a bore seal element plus an optional seal element. The compact flange types considered by this document are:welding neck, integral flange, blind flange, rigid interface, swivel flange, paddle blank, andpaddle spacer. The design aspects take into consideration the full life cycle of the CFC, including:manufacturing/testing phase, assembling and installation in the field (including testing),operation, inspection, and maintenance in the field, andde-commissioning/removal from the field. This document does not consider geometrical aspects, so interchangeability between CFs and CF-components from different manufacturers is not deducible from this document. The use of load carrying seal elements (traditionally referred to as "gaskets" as in ISO 7005-1 [1] and ASME B16.5 [2] ) are not included in the scope of this document, since this will normally be non-compliant to the fundamental requirements of this document.Only flanges made of steel or nickel alloys have been considered in this document.Annex A provides calculations by formulas and code safety factors.Annex B describes how to verify design of a CFC by finite element analyses (FEA).Annex C provides a set of qualification requirements for suppliers of CFC components.Annex D provides a non-exhaustive guide for using CFC in high temperature applications.Annex E is a guide on how to develop and qualify new types of sealing elements.Annex F include design requirements to thread tolerances and testing provisions to prevent problems by bolt tensioning.Annex G provides examples of IX seal ring use cases in subsea applications.
