This standard specifies requirements for classification of tubular cored electrodes in the as-welded condition for metal arc welding with or without a gas shield of non alloy and fine grain steels with a minimum yield strength of up to 500 N/mm2. One tubular cored electrode can be tested and classified with different gases. It is recognized that the operating characteristics of tubular cored electrodes can be modified by the use of pulsed current, but fo rthe purpose of this standard, pulsed current is not used for determining the electrode classification.
